OSRS Dragon Pickaxe

Dragon Pickaxe is the second-best mining pickaxe in the game, with Crystal Pickaxe holding the first spot. In the following guide we’ll be covering everything there is to know about this mighty mining tool.

Specs

The Dragon Pickaxe has a requirement of level 60 Attack to equip and level 61 Mining to use. It offers an increase in your mining speed, which is 5.88% more than the Rune Pickaxe. It has a special attack called Rock Knocker which can be used every 5 minutes to increase your mining level by 3 points.

A plus point of the Dragon Pickaxe is that even if you’re level 58 Mining you can use the tool by activating the special attack. You only need enough Attack level to equip it. The special does not stack with the Mining Achievement Cape boost.

Upgrade #1

You can upgrade the Dragon Pickaxe by using a Smoldering Stone on it, but you’ll need 85 Smithing to do so. The end result you’ll get is the Infernal Pickaxe. This version has a 1 of 3 chance to smelt ores while you’re mining them. During the process, you also get Smithing XP, so it’s like training both skills through a single task.

The Infernal Pickaxe has a total of 5,000 charges, which means after smelting 5,000 ores, the pickaxe will turn back to its original form (Dragon Pickaxe). The stone used on the pickaxe costs 1.1M OSRS GP at the Grand Exchange. Also, turning it into the infernal version makes the pickaxe untradeable.

Upgrade #2

While the Infernal Pickaxe is a good way to train both, Mining as well as Smithing, there’s another considerable option for you to choose from. You can convert the Dragon Pickaxe into the game’s best mining tool, which is the Crystal Pickaxe. It offers shocking XP rates per hour.

You can create the Crystal Pickaxe by combining the Dragon Pickaxe with 120 Crystal Shards and a Crystal Tool Seed which is worth 1.6M RS Gold. However, you’ll need about 76 Crafting and Smithing to do so.

If you don’t have the requirements, you can ask the NPCs Reese and Conwenna to do it for you. They are located at the Singing Bowl, which is in Priffdinas. The only drawback is that they charge an extra 60 Crystal seeds to upgrade.

Ironman Players

Since Ironman players can’t purchase the required items from the Grand Exchange, or even purchase the item, which is the Dragon Pickaxe, they’ll need to kill monsters for it. Alternatively, they can also get it by completing Master Clue Scrolls.

If you’re an Ironman, you’ll need to kill one of the following monsters for a chance to obtain a Dragon Pickaxe in the form of a drop. Level 470 Callisto, Level 464 Venenatis, Level 454 Vet’ion, Level 305 Chaos Elemental, or Level 276 King Black Dragon. The drop rates differ depending on the monster you approach.

Price

The Dragon Pickaxe currently stands at 8.3M (at the time of writing). It’s a pretty pricey item that went up from 4.4M OSRS Gold in 2020. This just proves how every player wants it. The prices are constantly changing by the clock, so if you want one then now’s the best time to purchase.
